How many dogs do you take? I take a maximum of 5 boarding dogs at one time (plus my own 2 dogs, so 7 dogs total).
Can I meet you before boarding my dog? I require a previsit before a dog's actual stay. The previsit takes 10-30 minutes and gives us a chance to meet each other and for me to meet your dog(s). The previsit also gives your dog a chance to sniff around my house and get used to the place before their actual stay. There is no interaction between the visiting dogs and other dogs in the house at the time of the previsit. We want the visiting dog to have a good chance to check out the house without added stress.
How much notice do I need to schedule my dog's stay? Once you have specific dates in mind contact me to check for availability. Normally 2-4 weeks in advance is enough time but certain holidays will fill 2 months ahead of time. Depending on availability I can also sometimes accommodate same day or next day visits.
Do I need an appointment to drop my dog off or can I drop off any time? We require that you schedule a specific time to drop off and pick up your dog. We like to have all the other boarding dogs crated and calm before you arrive. This creates less stress for your dog as well as the other dogs who are already in my home. We also like to let your dog adjust to our home before introducing them to the other dogs, so having them crated before you arrive works the best. This means a rearranged time if required. We also ask that you are on time when you drop your dog off so the dogs who are currently in my home don't have to be crated for longer than needed.
What do I need to bring for my dog? Bring your dog's food, their leash, a flat buckle collar and their walking collar (gentle leader, slip, prong). Sometimes your dog's crate will be needed. We will provide food/water dishes, blankets, beds, toys and snacks.
Do I need to bring my dog's food? To insure your dog does not have digestive upset please bring your dog's normal food. Bring enough food to last 2 days longer than your planned trip. You can bring food in it's original bag or other storage container. If bringing raw food please package each meal in it's own zip lock bag for easy feeding. This reduces the risk of raw food contamination.
How often will my dog eat? Our normal schedule is to feed twice a day. Once in the morning and once at dinner. All dogs are feed apart from each other in their own "space" (whether this be outside, living room alone or crated). This reduces the risk of food guarding and fighting during meal time.
Will my dog be crated/kenneled? When I am not training dogs I am a stay at home mom. Which means I spend a good deal of my day at home. The dogs are free to run around as much as they like. They also have free access to the backyard whenever needed. Occasionally I will need to run an errand or take one of my kids to a Dr visit. If I need to leave the house all dogs will be crated/kenneled. We also crate/kennel at night when we are sleeping. This is done for the safety of all the dogs. If I can not directly supervise them I can not insure their safety. Dogs will be dogs and are good at finding their way into sticky situations. Ex: Climbing up on a table or counter top and jumping off and hurting themselves. Chewing on power cords or ingesting pieces of chewed off furniture. Getting into a fight with another dog. I do have many crates, in many different sizes in both plastic and metal. Most of the time you will not need to bring a crate.
What if I don't have a crate? I do have some extra crates your dog can use while staying with us. Please ask me ahead of time to make sure I have the correct size for your dog. If your dog has never been crated we will help them learn in a positive and reassuring manner.
Will you walk my dog? We will walk manageable dogs for an extra fee. Please bring along any walking harnesses, gentle leaders, slip chains or prong collars you use during your normal walk. If your dog needs training on soft leash walking please let me know and we can work out a training schedule for an extra fee.
Can you train my dog? During the course of a normal day I will casually ask your dog to "sit" or "down". I will also do small training sessions with the group of dogs on basic commands.
What if my dog gets sick? If your dog gets sick during their stay with us we will contact you immediately. If your dog needs immediate attention we will bring him to your personal vet or to the closest vet if time does not allow. You will be responsible for all bills incurred.
When is payment due? Payment in full is due when your dog is dropped off. I can not accept your dog without payment. I accept cash, checks, and PayPal.
How do you correct dogs who are behaving badly? Certain behaviors are not allowed or accepted in our home. If your dog has a problem with indoor barking or mounting we will use a squirt bottle to interupt this behavior. If the behavior continues past a few squirts the dog will have a short time out in their crate. Barking outdoors is corrected by letting the dog indoors. If water does not solve the problem our next step would be to have the dog wear a gentle leader head collar while being supervised during the day. This will help to calm the dog. If excessive barking is a problem and the above two methods do not work we will use a citronilla remote training collar. Only non-aggressive dogs are permitted to board at Zoomie Zone. We will not tolerate behaviors such as growling, snapping or lunging at other dogs.
